Elizabeth was born in 1821 in Stratfield Saye.  Elizabeth's father was George COX and her mother was Elizabeth.  Her paternal grandparents were John COX and Elizabeth GRANTHAM. She had five brothers named James, Joseph, George, Richard and Benjamin.  She was the oldest of the six children.
