Benjamin was born in 1830 in Stratfield Saye.  Benjamin's father was George COX and his mother was Elizabeth.  His paternal grandparents were John COX and Elizabeth GRANTHAM. He had four brothers and a sister, named James, Joseph, George, Richard and Elizabeth.  He was the youngest of the six children.
