Richard was born in 1664 in Claydon and his baptism took place there on March 31st, 1665.  Richard's father was Edmund BIRD and his mother was Margaret BROWNE.  His paternal grandparents were Edmund BIRD and Priscilla HOWELL; his maternal grandparents were William BROWNE and Ann. He had a brother and two sisters, named Edmund, Margaret and Ann.  He was the youngest of the four children.
