John was born on April 24th, 1851 in Southwark. John's father was George Richard BATSFORD and his mother was Emma BOXALL. His paternal grandparents were Richard BATSFORD and Martha; his maternal grandparents were George BOXALL and Sophia KIBBLE. He had six brothers and a sister, named George, William, Robert, Arthur, Edward, Walter and Eliza. He was the third oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 50 on September 3rd, 1901 in Watford.
