Stanley Arthur Risby BARTON

Stanley was born on February 25th, 1898 in Hitcham and his baptism took place there on April 24th, 1898. Stanley's father was Joseph BARTON and his mother was Julia Alice HODDY. His paternal grandparents were Robert BARTON and Susan BLOOMFIELD; his maternal grandparents were Robert HODDY and Eliza RISBY. He had two brothers and a sister, named William, Claude and Gwendoline. He was the second oldest of the four children. He died as a war casualty at the age of 19 on October 3rd, 1917 in Zonnebeke.

- Memorial stone in Hitcham Churchyard to Robert Ambrose Hoddy and Stanley Barton. Inscription reads "Stanley Arthur Risby Barton, Northumberland Fusiliers, formerly of the Suffolk regiment, 2nd son of Joseph and Julia Alice Barton, killed in action in France 1.10.1917 in his 20th year."
