Henry was born in 1836 in Beech Hill.  Henry's father was Joseph APPLETON and his mother was Charlotte WELCH.  His paternal grandparents were William APPLETON and Lucy KEEP; his maternal grandparents were Unknown and Miriam WELCH. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, John, William, Thomas, Elizabeth, Charlotte and Mary.  He was the fifth oldest of the eight children.
