In 1861, John is 55, now an Innkeeper/Servant at Grundy Hill neighbouring Gorton Fold.  He has his wife Jenny (54) four children; Joseph (21), John (19), Edward (13) and Jane (9)

In 1871, John  was back at Gorton Fols, now a brewer (65) with daughter Jane (20).  Son Thomas was at Grundy Hill with his wife Mary.

In 1841, Nathan and Catherine (both 50) were at Adlington, Rivington with Ann (20), Margaret (15), Nathan (14), Thomas (6) and Edward (4).  Nathan was a plasterer and Whitewasher.

In 1851, Nathan and Catherine (61 & 60) were at Higher Lane, Adlington.

In 1828, Jane Ridings, spinster married Isaac Mather, a widow at St. Peters (Bolton).

In 1829, Jane (recorded as Jenny) and Isaac had daughter Ann and in 1831 a son Isaac. Ann died in 1837, aged 7.

On 29 June 1835, after her husband Isaac Mather died, Jane Mather (widow) married Henry Mather (bachelor).  It was probably her uncle Jonathan, i.e. John Ridings, who was witness.  Henry was Isaac's nephew.

In April 1841, Jane's second husband Henry Mather died, aged only 29 and is buried at Blackrod.  The June census shows Jane (35, cotton weaver) living alone with her son Isaac (10) at New Street, Aspull.

In 1851, Jane Riding (49) and her son Isaac Mather (28) were living with her brother Hugh Riding at Adlington.  Jane and Isaac Dodd are also recorded at Lostock, so was Jane living in two places?

1831 - 1906 Isaac Mather 75 75 In 1841, Isaac (10) with mother Jane (35) at New Street, Aspull, but no father.  Henry had died a few months earlier.

In 1851, soon after Isaac was born, his father died.  Isaac Mather (19) went to live with Jane's family.  He was with his uncle Hugh and Margaret Ridings at Blackadon, Adlington (just north of Blackrod).

In 1861, Isaac Ridings (or Mather, 28) was unmarried and a servant for Hugh Ridings (farmer, 78) and his brother Jonathan (60) at Adlington. He was described as the farmer's Nephew.

In 1865, Isaac (32, Publican) son of Isaac (deceased) from Adlington married Margaret Arrowsmith of Pemberton, daughter of James a farmer (deceased).  This was the Ridgeway Arms, Adlington.

The Ridgeway Arms, 176 Chorley Road, was built about 1825 of sandstone block construction, by the Ridgeway family, and the pub sine had their family crest.  It is now (2018) a Tesco Express.

In 1871, Isaac and Margaret (39 & 36) were farming 7 acres on the Bolton Rd, Adlington. Neighbour James Arrowsmith (possible brother of Margaret) was a carpenter employing 3 men and Thomas Walton was a licence victualler.  Jane Dodd, Mother-in-law (59) was also present.

In 1881, Isaac (50, born Blackrod) was a farmer of 12 acres at Farm House, Adlington with Margaret (46).  They had two daughters, Elizabeth and Ann (16 & 8).

In 1891, Isaac and Margaret (60 & 56) are at 1 Riding Street (farm) with daughters Elizabeth and Ann (26 & 18) and a farm servant.

In 1900, Daughter Ann (20) recorded her residence as Ridings Farm on her marriage.

In 1901, Isaac and Margaret (70 & 66) are still at 1 Riding Street (farm) with now married daughter Ann Birchall (28), family and a farm servant. Also both grandaughters.
1761 John Mather John was baptised at Horwich Independant.  He seems to be the only child of Thomas and Betty (Flitcroft?), although Peter, son of Peter (a possible nephew) was also baptised there 10-Nov-1783.

John was a farmer, married at Standish.  After John and Ann were married they lived at Heath Charnock (1785 when Mary baptised), Later baptisms show their abode as Blackrod and John a farmer.
1760 - 1822 Ann Entwistle 62 62 Ann is the daughter of Thomas Entwistle (see Thomas, Nathan, Alice and Isaac's baptism) 1786 - 1833 Thomas Mather 46 46 Thomas was the oldest son of John and Ann from Blackrod.

Thomas and wife Ann lived at Mackinson's farm, Blackrod.  Ann was still there in 1841 after Thomas had died.

I appear to have NO dna links to this family.
1798 - 1873 Amey (Emy) Worsley 75 75 Thomas married his second wife Amey Worsley in 1822.  Thomas and Amey were a Widower and Widow.

Thomas's wife couldnt of known how to spell Amy's name.  She was named Emy, Emma, Eney (for the childrens baptisms) and Anny (in 1841), but also Alice for William and Thomas's baptisms!
1830 - 1884 Isaac Mather 54 54 In Dec 1830, Isaac was baptised at Blackrod, the son of Thomas and Emy Mather. NOTE: Another Isaac was baptised 17 Apr 1831, the son of Isaac and Jane Mather, so approx the same age..

George, James and Isaac were coal miners in 1851, living at Addlington Common.

1863 was a disaster for the family.  Martha (6), Rachel (1) and Thomas (1) all died as young children.

In 1881, Isaac and Alice (44 & 46) had Margaret (17), Martha (11), Elizabeth (9) and Alice (4). Also Alice's mother Martha Hargreaves (78).
1819 - 1897 Richard Mather 78 78 Farmer, son of Nathian, also a farmer (when he married Jane).
He died aged 78, but 85 on headstone.

1843-57 the family lived as Aspull, Blackrod (where all the childrens births registered), although in 1850, Ann's birth was registered at Adlington, Preston.

In 1845 Richard was witness to his cousin Hannah's marriage (he is the only Richard on the 1851 census from Blackrod).

In 1859, Richard was also an Inkeeper (victular) when his father Nathan died and in 1861.  In 1861 he was at the "Three Crowns" at Blackrod, a victular and farmer of 22 acres.
1818 - 1883 Jane Walls 65 65 Jane Walls, daughter of James married Richard Mather 17 Jan 1842. 1853 - 1853 Alice Mather 28d 28d 1843 - 1870 James Mather 27 27 1854 - 1939 Jane Elizabeth Mather 84 84 1847 - 1919 John Mather 72 72 1845 - 1922 Nathan Mather 76 76 Nathain was named after his grandfather.

This may be another.

In 1871, Nathan was a Farm Servant at Crowshaw Farm, Blackrod.

In 1881, Nathen Mather (67, unmarried), was a farm labourer and Inmate at the "Wigan Union Workhouse" Frog Lane.
1818 Alice Mather 1821 Elizabeth Mather Married William Moss (b.1821) and had a son Thomas (b.1850) - All TBC 1824 Ellen Mather 1791 - 1852 John Mather 61 61 Although baptised at Ridgway Gates, this John is the missing 3rd son of John and Ann from Blackrod.  The other 5 sons (and 3 daughters) are all baptised at St. Katherine, Blackrod and numbered 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th.

In 1841, John and Mary Mather nee Biggins (both 45) are Farmers at Brown's Fold, (Little Scotland), Blackrod. Betty & William Biggins are servants.  Ann (60, sister-in-law), John, Thomas and Hannah (30, 20 & 15) are neighbours at Mackinson's farm, Blackrod.

1851: John's wife Mary Biggins died in January.  By April, John (60, Wid, born Blackrod) is a farmer of 12 acres at Makinson's Farm, Blackrod. He has Betty Biggins (59) and her son William (21) as servants.  His son TBC, Thomas Mather and wife Alice (30 & 25) are on the neighbouring Sibbering's farm (BL6 5LR, Little Scotland, Blackrod).

1852 John Died, a year after his wife.
1726 - 1726 Ann (Susannah) Mather 1664 - 1732 Thomas Mather 68 68 Yeoman shown on daughter Margaret's and son Thomas's burials.

4 Years after Thomas married Margaret, theres another marriage for Thomas Mather of Anglezarke to Margaret Kellet.  Is this the same person?

6 April 1680, Thomas Mather of Dunscar (near Walmsley Chapel and Egerton) for £36 assigned to Christopher Horrox of Turton, Yeoman, moiety of Dunscar, Tenement in Turton, in trust by mother Ann Mather of Thomas Mather, to .... (full record dated 11-Nov-1692 held in Lancashire Archives, ref: DDPI 12/1)
~1710 - 1712 Thomas Mather 2 2 ~1680 - 1740 Thomas Mather 60 60 In 1704, "Thomas Mather of Jepsons" was Church Warden for Rivington and again in 1729, "Thomas Mather for Mr. Turner of Anglezarke".

This is almost certainly the same Thomas who married "Margaret Kellett of Anglezarke" in 1701, so was from these parts.
~1680 Margaret Kellett 1707 <female> Mather 1697 - 1768 John Mather 71 71 John's father was Thomas Mather and Anglezerk, and John probably stayed here.  Margaret's baptism of .1727 as John of Anglezerk.

On 8 Jan 1716, John Mather, son of Thomas Mather of Turton had a female bastard child recorded at Bury Patitions.  The mother may have been Ann Knowles.  John married Ann Knowles in 1722.

John was a Yeoman in 1726 (when Susannah was buried).
1738 James (Jas) Mather James, son or Ralph Mather.  This james may have died, as another Janes son of Ralph was born 1743

There is another Ralph and Ann of Chorley who had a son James born 1 May, Bap 7 June 1795, later Withnell
<unknown> Possibly Esther Mason or Hannah Howarth 1768 Sally Mather 1764 Ann Mather 1762 Robert Mather 1770 Betty Mather 1773 Ellen Mather 1705 - 1788 Ralph Mather 83 83 Gilbert Mather of Adlington died 1593, with his main heir Ralph under 21.  Gilbert's son Ralph is a probable anceston of this Ralph.

Ralph lived at Anderton and (Heath) Charnock and had his children baptised at Rivington.  However, some of the later baptism records are indexed for Little Lever, although aslo shows as Rivington.
~1710 Ann Anderton 1741 Betty Mather 1750 - 1843 Ralph Mather 93 93 1722 - 1789 John Mather 67 67 John was baptised at Radcliffe in 1722, son of John, so probably a nephew of Ralph. ~1730 Ellen When son John died in 1788, his mother was shown as Ellen 1756 Agnes (Aggie) Mather Twins from Addington.

Agnes married Charles Rigby 24 Jan 1775.  The following marriage was of Mary Mather who married John Anderton a week later.
1750 Betty Mather 1752 - 1788 John Mather 36 36 "John son of Ellen Mather of Anderton" was buried in 1788.  If it is this John, then we also know his father had died by this time, and his mother was Ellen 1762 - 1771 Nathen Mather 9 9 1759 Alice Mather ~1700 Ann Knowles There is a document in the Lancashire archives Ref QSP/1108/12 (ca. 1716-1717):"Turton - bastardy of Ann Knowles and John, son of Thomas Mather, fustian-weaver." 1801 James Mather 1795 George Mather 1798 Alice Mather 1793 - 1833 Betty Mather 40 40 Betty Mather probably married James Makinson at St Peters Bolton in 1813 (and brother Nathan also married Alison Makinson).  James was a \father, and is a farmer here with the childrens baptisms. 1780 - 1850 Thomas Mather 70 70 16-Jan-1803, Thomas a weaver married Ann Kay, a widow, at St. Peters.. There are no obvious children.  There are other Thomas Mather marriaged to Ann Holt of Blackrod (1810) and Ann Hulton of Middleton (1818)

The following years resulted in two birth in Bolton for parents Thomas and Ann. Robert in 1805 was probably illegitimate as no father was named. Margaret in 1810 seem late for a widowed couple but is possible
1785 - 1785 Mary Mather 1m 1m 1788 - 1859 Nathan Mather 70 70 Nathan's father may have been John, a farmer, who died in 1830 (and Nathan was executor).  There is also Nathan son of Edward and Mary born Chorley, 1789

In 1841, Nathan was a farmer at Hoom's House adjacent to Mather's Fold, Aspull, (West of Blackrod Church) towards Wigan.
