Ann was born in September 1877 in Bolton.¹

Ann's father was Richard Tomlinson and her mother was Sarah Ann Barnes. Her paternal grandparents were Richard Tomlinson and Ann Bolton; her maternal grandparents were James Barnes and Sarah Barnes. She had a brother and a sister, named Richard and Ellen. She was the oldest of the three children. She had a half-brother named Peter. She died at the age of 6 in September 1883 in Bolton.²
