John was born in 1803 in Little Hulton and his baptism took place on June 19th, 1803 at Peel Chapel.1  John's father was Samuel Tildsey and his mother was Martha Mort. He had two brothers and seven sisters, named James, Samuel, Ann, Judith, Alice, Elizabeth, Martha, Maria and Charlotte.  He was the second youngest of the ten children.
