William was born in 1846 in Laysters.1   William's father was John Postans and his mother was Martha Reynolds.  His paternal grandparents were John Leetward and Honor (Honoria) Postans. He had three brothers and three sisters, named John, Thomas, Henry, Mary, Anne and Jane.  He was the second youngest of the seven children.
