Thomas was born in August 1814 in Knighton Upon Teme and his christening took place there on August 21st, 1814.1  Thomas' father was John Leetward and his mother was Honor (Honoria) Postans. He had two brothers and two sisters, named John, Samuel, Mary and Harriot.  He was the third oldest of the five known children.
