Sarah was born about 1824 in Yorkshire and her christening took place on August 29th, 1824 in Bingley.1 2  Sarah's father was Joseph Pickles and her mother was Hannah Bolton. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, Thomas, William, Mary and Elizabeth.  She was the second youngest of the six children.
