William was born in March 1906 in Burnley.1  William's father was James Thomas Pearson and his mother was Elizabeth Ann Walton.  His maternal grandparents were James Walton and Jane Knowles Barrow. He had two brothers named Ernest and Kenneth.  He was the second oldest of the three known children.
