Eli was born in 1826 in Sowe and his christening took place on December 24th, 1826 in Walsgrave On Sowe.1  Eli's father was Samuel Oldham and his mother was Sarah Hewitt. He had two sisters named Patience and Elizabeth.  He was the oldest of the three children.
