Martha was born in 1836 in Manningham and her christening took place on May 6th, 1835 in Bradford.1 2  Martha's father was William Medley and her mother was Hannah Hainsworth. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Joseph, Mary and Sarah.  She was the second oldest of the five children. She had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named William, Robert and Zilpha.
