Happy was born on February 6th, 1823 in Little Bolton.¹

Happy's father was Samuel Mather and her mother was Alice Mather. Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Happy Lomax; her maternal grandparents were William Mather and Betty Holt. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Isaac, William, John, Samuel, George, Ellin, Mary, Alice and Maria. She was the fourth youngest of the ten children. She died from cancer, Epithelioma of Tongue, at the age of 66 on May 13th, 1889 in Astley Bridge.²

  In 1891 Phineas was recorded as a border and widowed.
  
  Cause of death was "Epithelioma of Tongue", a tumor, certified by J Robinson MD. Age 65. Wife of Phineas Shuttleworth a labourer at the Iron Foundry.
  
  Death reported by "Phineas Shuttleworth, widower of the deceased, present at the death. 9 Nell Street, Sharples".
  
  Death registered on 14 May 1889 by Roberet Lever, Registrar.
  
  NOTE: Not burrued at the main Bolton cemeteries of Tonge or Heaton.

  Happy, while a minor (aboyt 20) married John Barrow, a Chemist, on 5th Sep 1842. However John died soon after in 1845.
  
  By 1851, Happy had lost her first husband and was living with her daughter Maria and parents, Samuel and Alice. 1851 census has her as Married, not Widdowed, but she probably was.
  
  Happy's father Samuel died in 1854. It appears that Happy of Rose Hill,.was in attendance at her fathers death (but it looks like Harry Shuttleworth on the certificate).
  
  By 1861 har father Samuel has died. Happy has remarried Phineas Shuttleworth, and is now living at 167 Lever Street, Little Bolton, still with her daughter Maria and mother Alice Mather.
