Francis was born on April 3rd, 1831 and her christening took place on June 12th, 1831 in Edgworth.1  Francis' father was Joseph Mather and her mother was Betty (Elizabeth) Cooper. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Charles, Andrew, John, Joseph, Elizabeth, Sophia, Alice and Jane.  She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.
