Esther was born in March 1861 in Entwistle.1  Esther's father was Isaac Mather and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Marsden. She had seven brothers and five sisters, named James, Simon, Luke, William, James, John, Andrew, Elizabeth, Sophia, Ruth, Alice and Sarah.
