Edward was born in 1832 in Adlington and his baptism took place there on May 27th, 1832.1   Edward's father was Nathan Mather and his mother was Catherine. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Edward, Nathan, Nathan, Thomas, Richard, Mary, Elizabeth, Ann and Margaret.  He was the third youngest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 2 on December 17th, 1834 in Adlington.1
