Alice was born in 1796 in Worsley and her baptism took place there on March 27th, 1796.1  Alice's father was Ellis Mather and her mother was Ann Thornley. She had four brothers and a sister, named James, William, John, Ellis and Betty.  She was the second oldest of the six children.
