John was born on November 5th, 1774 in Bolton and his christening took place on December 11th, 1774 at Bank Street Unitarian.1  John's father was Smasho Lomax and his mother was Esther Smith. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Jeffrey, William, Thomax, Ann, Alice and Mary.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.
