Dorothy was born about February 1923.  Dorothy's father was John W Lewis and her mother was Evelyn Mary Dittmer.  Her maternal grandparents were Johann (Chris) Heinrich Christoph Dittmer and Katharina (Margaret) Margaretha Maria Heuer. She had four brothers named Kenneth, Alan, Norman and Gordon.  She is the oldest of the five children.
