Jessie's father was William Eddowes and her mother was Elizabeth Shortridge. Her paternal grandparents were John Eddowes and Mary Holt. She had two brothers and four sisters, named William, John, Agnes, Esther, Janet and Lillian. She was the second oldest of the seven children.
