Wilhelm, known as William or Will, was born in September 1880 in West Derby.1  William or Will's father was Johann (Chris) Heinrich Christoph Dittmer and his mother was Katharina (Margaret) Margaretha Maria Heuer.  His paternal grandparents were Christian Fredrich Dittmer and Maria Luise Bliesener. He had seven brothers and five sisters, named George, Fred, Henry, Chris, John, Charles, James, Mary, Margaret, Lizzie, Catherine and Evelyn.  He was the fourth oldest of the thirteen children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named George and Dorris.
