James was born in 1901 in Prescot.1   James' father was Johann (Chris) Heinrich Christoph Dittmer and his mother was Katharina (Margaret) Margaretha Maria Heuer.  His paternal grandparents were Christian Fredrich Dittmer and Maria Luise Bliesener. He had seven brothers and five sisters, named George, William or Will, Fred, Henry, Chris, John, Charles, Mary, Margaret, Lizzie, Catherine and Evelyn.  He was the second youngest of the thirteen children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named George and Dorris.  He died in 1901 in Prescot.1
