George was born in September 1911 in Prescot.1  George's father was Frederick (Fred) Christopher Dittmer and his mother was Maud Seymour Lindop.  His paternal grandparents were Johann (Chris) Heinrich Christoph Dittmer and Katharina (Margaret) Margaretha Maria Heuer. He had a brother named Will.  He was the younger of the two children.
