Evelyn was born in September 1903 in West Derby.1  Evelyn's father was Johann (Chris) Heinrich Christoph Dittmer and her mother was Katharina (Margaret) Margaretha Maria Heuer.  Her paternal grandparents were Christian Fredrich Dittmer and Maria Luise Bliesener. She had eight brothers and four sisters, named George, William or Will, Fred, Henry, Chris, John, Charles, James, Mary, Margaret, Lizzie and Catherine.  She was the youngest of the thirteen children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named George and Dorris.
