Joseph was born in 1775 in Highfield and his christening took place on August 9th, 1775 in Independent (Highfield).1  Joseph's father was Jonathon Crosland and his mother was Betty Liversedge.  His paternal grandparents were John Crosland and <unknown>. He had three brothers named Dan, James and Charles.  He was the second youngest of the four children.
