Charles was born in 1778 in Highfield and his christening took place on May 20th, 1778 in Independent (Highfield).1  Charles' father was Jonathon Crosland and his mother was Betty Liversedge.  His paternal grandparents were John Crosland and <unknown>. He had three brothers named Dan, James and Joseph.  He was the youngest of the four children.
