William was born on May 6th, 1852 in Bury and his christening took place on June 13th, 1852 at St. Mary (Bury).1  William's father was William Buckley and his mother was Ann Nuttall. He had four brothers and two sisters, named James, Thomas, William, John, Elizabeth and Margaret.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
