John Buckley

John was born about 1776 in Latham and his christening took place on June 2nd, 1776 in Saddleworth.¹²

Birth Notes
- May have been born in Bolton-Le-Moores, but unconfirmed.
  
  Email from Craig: The only info I have on John Buckley ABT 1776 is that he was from Lathom (or Lathorn) in Yorkshire (which is recorded in the 1851 census).
  
  There about 30 John Buckley's from Yorkshire born 1776 +/- 5, and almost all from Saddleworth. By trying to match parents to childrens names, Benjamin and Sarah fit quite well, but obviously not confirmed..

John's father was Benjamin Buckley and his mother was Sarah Ogden(?). He had two brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, Josiah, Mary and Ann. He was the youngest of the five known children. He died on January 27th, 1853 in Bolton.³

Death Notes
- Several deaths to choose from: Was alive in 1851 and died by 1861.
  However, Jeff Buckley has his death certificate, and has he death as 27-Jan-1853.
  
  During his time in Bolton he lived at 34 Crook Street and this is the address given on his death cert. with occupation as an 'Oil Cloth Maker'

General Notes
- John Buckley was recorded as Ellen's father on her wedding certificate. He was an Oil Sheet Maker.
  
  There are Many John Buckleys on the 1841 census, but the one married to Mary was also an Oil Sheet Worker.

      By 1851, except for Mary, their children had left home and they had 9 lodgers and visitors to fill what must have been a big house.

    - Neighbours in 1841. Perhaps Ellen met John Mather this way, if Jacob was an uncle or other relative.
