Edith's father was Benjamin Buckley and her mother was Patience Oldham. Her paternal grandparents were John Buckley and Mary Leech; her maternal grandparents were Samuel Oldham and Sarah Hewitt. She had two brothers and six sisters, named Henry, Silas, Sarah, Martha, Mary, Emma, Ellen and Beatrice. She was the seventh oldest of the nine children.

    - Benjamin, Patience and Martha Bucklet living at Giude Lane, in the village of Hooley Hill in 1851.
      Still there in 1861 with larger family, but by now it is called Guide Road.
      The whole family (all sons and daughters) are still there in 1871, now called Guide Lane again.
      
      In 1881, the house number is also recorded (as 42). Only Patiens and the 4 youngest children, Ellen, Edith, Bertrice, and Silas remain.
