William was born in 1884 in Sharples.1   William's father was Charles Brooks and his mother was Ann (Anna) Price. He had six brothers named Joseph, James, John, Charles, George and Robert.  He was the sixth oldest of the seven children. He had six half-brothers and two half-sisters, named George, James, Robert, Samuel, Thomas, Ernest, Alice and Happy.
