James was born in 1875 in Sharples.1  James' father was Charles Brooks and his mother was Ann (Anna) Price. He had six brothers named Joseph, John, Charles, George, William and Robert.  He was the second oldest of the seven children. He had six half-brothers and two half-sisters, named George, James, Robert, Samuel, Thomas, Ernest, Alice and Happy.
