Sarah was born in March 1859 in Huddersfield.1  Sarah's father was Joseph (Joe) Boocock and her mother was Mary Leak. She had two brothers and a sister, named Alfred, Joshua and Emma.  She was the second youngest of the four children. She had a half-brother and four half-sisters, named John, Ann, Mary, Charlotte and Martha.
