Richard was born in 1810 in Bolton and his christening took place on July 29th, 1810 at St. Peters (Bolton).1  Richard's father was Thomas Bolton and his mother was Mary Ramsden.  His paternal grandparents were Isaac Bolton and Alice. He had a brother and four sisters, named Abraham, Elizabeth, Ann, Mary and Maria.  He was the third oldest of the six children.
