James was born in 1831 in Bolton.1   James' father was George Barrow and his mother was Nancy Greenhalgh.  His paternal grandparents were John Barrow and Ann. He had five brothers and six sisters, named John, Betty, Richard, George, Thomas, Margaret, Eliza, Mary, Nancy, Celine and Ellen.  He was the seventh oldest of the twelve children. He had a half-brother named Edwin.  He died at the age of 73 on November 9th, 1904 in Pennsylvania (PA).2
