Jane was born on May 9th, 1807 in Bolton and her christening took place on May 9th, 1807 in Deane.1  Jane's father was Joseph Allen and her mother was Sarah Carter.  Her paternal grandparents were John Allen and Ellen Welsbey. She had seven brothers and two sisters, named Benjamin, Benjamin, William, Joseph, George, John, George, Elizabeth and Sarah.  She was the sixth oldest of the ten children.
