Benjamin was born in 1797 in Bolton and his christening took place there in July 1797.1  Benjamin's father was Joseph Allen and his mother was Sarah Carter.  His paternal grandparents were John Allen and Ellen Welsbey. He had six brothers and three sisters, named Benjamin, William, Joseph, George, John, George, Elizabeth, Sarah and Jane.  He was the second oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 2 in 1799 in Bolton.
