Moisej Adolfovich Esterkin

  • Moisei was born in Leningrad.  My great great aunt Ada was his second wife; he had a son from his first marriage.
    
    Moisei was a bolshevik who worked at the Putilov plant (well known for its strong communist ideals) and was a member of the Communist Party.
    
    In the late 1920's his son was born and, unknown to Moisei, his wife took the baby boy to a synagogue to be circumcised.  This was discovered by the party leaders, and Moisei was expelled from the party and dismissed from his job.
    
    And so, when in 1936 the entire old party was exterminated and replaced, Moisei survived.  Later, he rejoined the new Communist Party.
    
    He died in his 90's at a Moscow nursing home where he had lived with his wife Ada.
