Martha was born on October 12th, 1856.  Martha's father is Cornelis Johannes van Rooyen and her mother is Johanna Susanna Janse van Veeren. She has six brothers and five sisters, named Lukas, Daniel, Cornelis, Gert, Christoffel, Roelof, Catarina, Geertruida, Johanna, Maria and Susarra.  She is the tenth oldest of the twelve children.
