Jacobus was born on April 29th, 1888.  Jacobus' father is Cornelis Johannes van Rooyen and his mother is Judith Margareta Van Stede.  His paternal grandparents are Cornelis Johannes van Rooyen and Johanna Susanna Janse van Veeren. He has four brothers and four sisters, named Cornelis, Cornelis, Lukas, Daniel, Suzarra, Johanna, Judith and Johanna.  He is the fifth oldest of the nine children.
