George was born on May 25th, 1886.  George's father is Daniel Jansen van Rooyen and his mother is Martha Elizabeth Vermaak.  His paternal grandparents are Cornelis Johannes van Rooyen and Johanna Susanna Janse van Veeren. He has three brothers and six sisters, named Cornelis, Cornelis, Daniel, Maria, Johanna, Martha, Catharina, Anna and Hester.  He is the youngest of the ten children.
