Cornelis was born on June 2nd, 1866.  Cornelis' father is Daniel Jansen van Rooyen and his mother is Martha Elizabeth Vermaak.  His paternal grandparents are Cornelis Johannes van Rooyen and Johanna Susanna Janse van Veeren. He has three brothers and six sisters, named Cornelis, Daniel, George, Maria, Johanna, Martha, Catharina, Anna and Hester.  He is the third oldest of the ten children.
