Catarina was born on June 9th, 1840.  Catarina's father is Cornelis Johannes van Rooyen and her mother is Johanna Susanna Janse van Veeren. She has six brothers and five sisters, named Lukas, Daniel, Cornelis, Gert, Christoffel, Roelof, Geertruida, Johanna, Maria, Susarra and Martha.  She is the third oldest of the twelve children.
