Thomas was born on May 14th, 1885.  Thomas' father was Andrew Hewat and his mother was Elizabeth Usher.  His maternal grandfather was George Usher and his maternal grandmother is Caroline Gaisford. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Andrew, Ronald, Lionel, Gwendoline, William, Amy, Jesse , Evelyn, Blanche and Gladys.  He was the fifth oldest of the eleven children.  He died at 7 months old in December 1885.
