Durand was born in 1895.  Durand's father was Joseph Charles Menne and his mother is Martha Aletta Louisa Mare.  His paternal grandparents are Theodore Menne and Johanna Wilhelmina Gertrude Hellet. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Victor, Charles, Louisa, Juana (Johanna), Magdalena and Martha.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children.  Durand is no longer alive.
