Jacobus (Klein Koos) was born on April 22nd, 1869.  Jacobus (Klein Koos)'s father was Cornelius (Basheesa) Jacobus Martens and his mother was Victoria Liversage.  His paternal grandfather was Jan  Thomas Martens and his paternal grandmother is Anna Maria Isabella Coetzee. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Jan, Samuel, Cornelis (Niel), Harriet  and Anna.  He was the fifth oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 51 in 1920.
