Christiaan was born on October 23rd, 1900.  Christiaan's father was Jan Thomas Martens and his mother was Susannah Engela Vermaak.  His paternal grandparents were Cornelius (Basheesa) Jacobus Martens and Victoria Liversage. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Cornelius, Jacobus, Thomas, Susanna (San), Victoria, Johanna, Harriet , Maria and Anna. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Johannes and Regina.  He died at the age of 32 in 1932.
