Anna was born on December 11th, 1886.  Anna's father was Jan  Thomas Martens and her mother was Susannah Maria van Rooyen.  Her paternal grandparents were Jan (Tommie) Thomas Martens and Anna  Catharina Elizabeth Pretorius. She had two brothers and a sister, named Jan (Tom Nkonka), Gert and Johannes.  She is the third oldest of the four children.
